Christmas Day 1908

1908 was the first year that the Burton Cup was offered as the prize for the winner of the men's Christmas Day race. It was won by William Laws, seen here holding it. The silver cup was presented to the club by Mr A Burton. It has been competed for every year since 1908, excluding the war years. It remains the prize for the 67-yard race (2 widths).
