Frederick Judge

Frederick William Judge (1877-1960) Frederick Judge was a keen swimmer and diver at the bathing-lake in its early years. Here he's pictured in the garden of his home in Cowick Street, Tooting, with a variety of prizes and trophies. The large shield is thought to be the Alexander Glegg trophy awarded to the South London Swimming Club member with the highest number of points at the end of the summer season. Points were awarded according to your finishing position in the Sunday morning races. The trophy was first competed for in 1907 after being donated by Glegg who, as Mayor of Wandsworth, had officiated at the opening of the pool the previous year. Awarding the trophy was discontinued in the 1940s and the trophy disappeared. It was found in the USA in 2024 and returned to the Club.
