Tooting Common Bathing Lake Opening Day Programme

Tooting Bathing Lake, as it was originally known, was opened on Saturday 28 July 1906. Alexander Glegg, Mayor of Wandsworth, formally handed the pool over to Sir Evan Spicer, Chairman of the London County Council which would be responsible for its maintenance. The programme gives data on the building of the pool, as well as a list of rules and regulations. Women were only permitted to swim after 8.30 a.m. on Tuesdays.
