Winter Swimming 1984

South London Swimming Club member Maurice Connor takes his morning dip despite the snow. Maurice first swam at the lido during the First World War and recalled that the water was so black "you couldn't see the bottom of the pool". Maurice later went blind but continued swimming at the lido into his 80s. Visible in the background is the old entrance (demolished 2016) and the slide which was taken down in the late 1980s/early 1990s.
