A Christmas Day race (for men only) was held on 25 December 1908. Races may also have been held in 1906 and 1907 but this year, for the first time, there was a prize: a silver trophy presented by Mr A Burton. The winner was William Laws, seen here holding the cup. Men still compete for the Burton Trophy today and women for the Kinnaird Trophy.
