South London Swimming Club captain William Laws is presented with a Royal Humane Society Honorary Vellum for his bravery in rescuing a woman from drowning at Sonning-on-Thames on 6 July 1930. The SLSC was set up in 1906 partly to promote life-saving. The Royal Humane Society was founded in 1774 and still makes bravery awards today.
